Portrait Sculpture Masterclass - November 26
Portrait Sculpture Masterclass - November 26
Course Options & Schedule
The Portrait Sculpture Masterclass will run as two independent 3-day modules:
- Session 1: Wednesday November 18th - Friday November 20th
- Session 2: Monday November 23rd - Wednesday November 25th
You are welcome to attend either session individually or combine both.
Classes run daily from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a one-hour lunch break.
The Workshop Experience
Over either 3 days or 6 days you will be sculpting one, exactly life size portrait in clay with a model.
This is a chance to learn Ellen’s unique measuring method adapted from the technique passed down to her by Brian Taylor FRBS.
This is a very intimate process involving going up close to the model to measure, with calipers, many times over the whole course. In fact, it will get more frequent as the work progresses.
The class includes studying the anatomy of the human head and skull and looking at the great portraits of Brian Taylor, Laurence Edwards, Dalou, Rodin and many more.
Several of Ellen’s sculptures are also on show in the studio.
Materials & Equipment
Everything you need for the course is in the studio including all materials and tools. Do bring your own tools if you’d like to.
Class Size & Studio Atmosphere
The group is strictly limited to 6 students and usually includes a wide range of abilities.
Expect a very inclusive and supportive experience with loads of coffee tea, snacks and the best chat. Ellen’s dog Turnip is also on hand for emotional support!
Location & Amenities
The studio is about 15 mins walk from either Deptford, New Cross or New Cross Gate stations. Parking is restricted around the studio. We have a bike store in the building. There is a cafe, convenience store and bakery nearby but most people bring a packed lunch. There’s a small kitchen area.
Firing & Casting Options
You have the opportunity to leave your sculpture to be fired, or cast in plaster, at an extra cost to be discussed.
