I remember the first time I saw my model in this pose. He was stretching between sessions for another sculpture we were working on. I was so struck by the shape of his torso seen from the front, big lat muscles opening out sideways like the head of a cobra. It was a very challenging shape to hold for any length of time. I hope I’ve caught at least some of the tension, effort and beauty of this extraordinary pose.
