Spot the difference!

One of these is bronze and the other painted plaster. The patina can make or break a piece of sculpture. I’m so lucky to have my studio just around the corner from one of the UK’s finest patina experts, Derek Bayley. He does all my bronze patinas for me but I really enjoy painting my plaster casts and seeing what works best with each piece.

This piece which is called ‘Marsyas’ needed a pretty serious, dark colour and a reflective sheen to highlight the modelling.
