Odysseus with Gaia

I often notice interesting and unexpected dialogues between different sculptures in the studio. I’ve been working on the patina for the cast of my portrait ‘Gaia’. I’ve also been having another look at my Sculpture ‘Odysseus Disguised’ from way back in 2015.
These two pieces really show my deep love of Ancient Greek sculpture and some Roman copies. I’ve spent so much of my life looking at the wonderful collection in The British museum. The utterly stunning bronze Hypnos is one of my absolute favourites. It is a Roman copy of a Greek original.
It’s not always a conscious thing when these echoes come through in the work I’m making. It’s taken me a while to see it but now that I do I’m really happy about it.
